Refined Contemporary Space

When you have a charming mid-century modern home, but the spaces are all separate and tiny because “that’s what they did then”, what do you do?  You install massive steel beams and annex the adjacent covered patio to create space from no space at all.  Details abound in the resulting open-concept kitchen.  High gloss cabinetry in contrasting colors provides the starting point.  Stainless steel appliances were selected for their timeless qualities. An existing skylight was enlarged and adorned with suspended lighting fixtures, and the metallic “penny round” backsplash tile adds a dramatic refraction of light to the space. Velvet dining chairs provide a high style feeling in the dining area, and bar seating expands the possibilities at the island.  New sliding glass doors open generously to a re-imagined exterior deck space that is partially shaded by open beams.  The wide plank wood floors bring the space back to a warm and welcoming place that will be enjoyed for years to come.
